COURTNEY LOVE reportedly broke down in tears while in court on Wednesday, as she listened to a Canadian businessman recount how her late husband Kurt Cobain's legacy had been mismanaged.

THE HOLE rocker is currently in court as the defendant in a libel case brought against her by her former lawyer Rhonda Holmes.

The attorney alleges the singer defamed her on Twitter and in an online interview in 2010, after a falling out between the two women.

A week into the Los Angeles Superior Court trial, witness Phillip Gross took the stand on Tuesday and confirmed Love's claim that Holmes had "disappeared", leaving the rocker to believe an outside individual had interfered in their working relationship.

Gross, who previously filed suit against Cobain's former guitar technician over the sale of a fake guitar, suggested in his testimony that the grunge rocker's instruments and memorabilia were mishandled and misrepresented, prompting Love to cover her face with her hands, gasp, and began to sob, according to Spin magazine.

Gross also revealed he reached out to Holmes, who promised to keep in touch with him - but reportedly never did.

Holmes was originally hired in 2008 to handle a fraud case against the executors of Cobain's estate.

The trial is making legal history - no one has ever been found guilty of sending libellous tweets
