ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND to split after 45 years
29 January 2014Gregg Allman says the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND will split after celebrating their 45th anniversary during 2014.
The announcement comes after guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks both said they’d be bowing out following celebrations of the landmark date.
Singer, keyboardist and guitarist Allman hasn’t said whether his decision is related to his bandmates’ moves, but tells Relix:
“This is it – this is the end of it. Forty-five years is enough, and I want to do something else anyway.”
He’s working on a solo album, with the intention of writing all of it and bringing in a host of guest musicians to play on it. He’s also involved in the making of a biopic based on his book My Cross To Bear, with Oscar-winning actor William Hurt in the lead role.
But as he looks back over decades since the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND’ self-titled debut album in 1969, he won’t rule out the chances of more performances in the future.
“Who’s to say?” he reflects. “We may get together every five years and just do one play at a time.”
