The petition on WhiteHouse.gov asking President Obama to deport Justin Bieber has succeeded, garnering enough signatures to earn an official response from the president’s team — though it could be weeks, months or even years before they get around to it.

The petition, which asks Mr. Obama to deport the Canadian pop music singer after several run-ins with the law, began last week and quickly amassed the 100,000 signatures the White House has set as the threshold for getting an official response.

It stood at 100,633 as of 8:30 Wednesday.

We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked,” the petition reads.

"He is not only threatening the safety of our people, but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”

Mr. Bieber is not in the U.S. on a green card, which signals legal permanent residency, but rather on a special visa given to actors, musicians, academics and other high-profile individuals the government deems to be important visitors.

Experts have debated whether Mr. Bieber’s legal troubles — he was charged last week with drunken driving in a drag race in Florida — rise to the level where his visa would be revoked.

It would be unusual but not impossible to cancel his visa and ask him to leave the country if he were found guilty of the charges against him.
The deportation petition started off somewhat slowly, but saw a major surge of interest overnight Monday and on Tuesday.

Bieber fans started a counter-petition on the WhiteHouse.gov website to defend the singer.
