As previously reported, the JIMI HENDRIX Forever stamp will be introduced March 13 as part of the US Post Office’s Music Icon series.

The official unveiling of the stamp will take place at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas, with a free outdoor performance by such rock musicians as SLASH (VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES), the MC5’s Wayne Kramer, Dave and Phil Alvin of THE BLASTERS, Rusty Anderson of PAUL MCCARTNEY’s touring band and others.

The stamp was created by artist Rudy Gutierrez who detailed the icon wearing one of his military jackets while holding his signature white Fender Stratocaster guitar.

"The technical challenge was making art that will still read at stamp size, so it was a matter of not being overly complicated," Gutierrez says in a news release. "It was important to make the art accessible … and to be true to the incredible combination of rawness and virtuosity that was Jimi Hendrix."

The Jimi Hendrix Forever stamp which sells for 49 cents, goes on sale Thursday at US post offices, the US Postal Service website and eBay.
