Late last year, SOUNDGARDEN drummer Matt Cameron announced something that some saw as inevitable since the band reunited: that he would be “taking 2014 off” from the group, due to commitments with the other majorly successful act he tours with, PEARL JAM, as well as the desire to spend more time with his family.

With SOUNDGARDEN’s 2014 tour dates approaching fast, and after their commemorative performance of Superunknown (of which Cameron was a part), it was about time a replacement drummer was announced.

According to Brazilian news portal O Globo (and other sources), the drummer is none other than Matt Chamberlain, who has toured with Tori Amos for years now, but is also known for playing with Pearl Jam in the early 90′s and his extensive list of studio contributions. More recently, he recorded some drum tracks on bassist Ben Shepherd’s solo debut, which makes him an obvious connection.

While Chamberlain will be with the band from this month through July, it is not known whether or not Cameron will return for SOUNDGARDEN’s co-headlining tour with Nine Inch Nails – since Pearl Jam don’t have any dates scheduled for the summer just yet.
