Rolling Stones frontman MICK JAGGER has said he’s “shocked and devastated” after his girlfriend of 13 years was found hanged in her New York home.

Police believe fashion designed L’Wren Scott, 49, committed suicide with a scarf tied around a doorknob yesterday morning.

Her body was discovered by her assistant, whom she had texted to come to the luxury Chelsea apartment. A police spokesman said: “A 49-year-old female was found this morning at 10.05am at 200, 11th Avenue. She was unconscious. She was pronounced dead on arrival by the emergency medical services. The investigation is ongoing. We are awaiting medical examiners to determine the cause of death.”

Jagger is currently touring Australia, with the Stones’ next show scheduled for Wednesday in Perth. The singer had been dating Scott since they met at a photo shoot in 2001. Their relationship had lasted longer than his marriages to Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger, who last night tweeted: “Heartbroken to learn of the loss of the lovely and talented L’Wren Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May she rest in peace.”

Scott left no suicide note. The New York Post reports that the pair had recently split up, while the BBC says her business was in debt to the tune of $7.6m, with assets of just $1.7m.
