STEVIE YOUNG spotted with AC/DC in VANCOUVER?
02 May 2014An AC/DC fan claims to have photographic evidence that Stevie Young has joined the members of the band in Vancouver, where they’re working on their next studio album.
Jeff Lorenz posted the above shot to Twitter, saying it was taken earlier this week in the city. Another user, Mike Pattonen, responded, “Ok so there we have it. Welcome #StevieYoung to @AC_DC – all the best guys, do it for Mal! … That guy on the right is #StevieYoung – he filled in for Mal in 1988 and it seems like he is back. Welcome Stevie!” (Reportedly that’s Angus on the left.)
Obviously, in lieu of an actual statement from the band, this is all complete conjecture.
But as fans are aware, Stevie Young did serve a stint in the lineup during the band’s 1988 tour for ‘Blow Up Your Video,’ filling in for Malcolm Young while he dealt with his alcohol dependency.
And the band has always been largely a family affair, with the AC/DC sound anchored by Malcolm and his brother Angus‘ guitars, and a portion of the group’s catalog produced by their older brother George.
Stevie is Angus and Malcolm’s nephew, and he bears a close enough physical (and sonic) resemblance to Malcolm that many fans reportedly didn’t even know the lineup had shifted in ’88.
What we can say for sure is that the band has been traveling. The fan site AC/DC Brasil posted a shot of singer Brian Johnson and bassist Cliff Williams in an airport, reportedly after touching down in Vancouver, along with a shot of the group’s gear.
The group recently announced it would be returning to the studio with producer Brendan O’Brien; presumably, now that everyone seems to be in one place and ready to work on material, we can expect to hear official word about Stevie’s involvement from AC/DC.
