FRED DURST Mistaken for Suspected Murderer by Associated Press
18 March 2015The Associated Press accidentally confused a suspected murderer with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.
The world is currently buzzing over The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, an HBO documentary series focused on a suspected killer. Robert Durst, the son of a wealthy real estate mogul, has been accused of killing three people over the course of three decades. One of those individuals was Durst’s wife.
The final episode of The Jinx, which seemingly includes a confession from Robert Durst, allowed authorities to bring charges against Durst, who has been acquitted for multiple deaths in the past.
The arrest of Robert Durst came with a strange twist, as reported by KCRW news host Eric Roy. Roy pointed out the following report to journalist Jim Romenesko, who posted the text on his personal site:
NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state – on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.
After realizing the mistake, the Associated Press corrected themselves:
In the second item of the California 10th NewsMinute sent March 16 to users of the state broadcast wire, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Robert Durst is a member of a band. He is a real estate heir; Fred Durst is the former frontman of Limp Bizkit.
Fred Durst is actually still the frontman of Limp Bizkit, but at least he’s no longer being labelled an alleged serial killer. Neither Fred Durst or Limp Bizkit have commented on the AP error.
