Ennio Morricone to score Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight
13 July 2015Italian composer Ennio Morricone started his now-legendary, multi-Oscar-nominated career providing scores for spaghetti-westerns like Once Upon a Time in the West, The Big Gundown, and Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy:. A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More; and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.
Now, for the first time in four decades, Morricone is returning to the genre that made him famous by composing the score to Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.
Tarantino is a long-time fan of Morricone, having used some of his work in the Kill Bill series, as well as Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds.
His latest endeavor, The Hateful Eight, is a Civil War-era film revolving around eight bounty hunters who seek refuge in a stagecoach stopover during a blizzard, but get involved in a plot of betrayal and deception. The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Demian Bichir, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth.
Tarantino made the announcement of Morricone’s involvement during the The Hateful Eight panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and western fans everywhere rejoiced.
