Low-budget airlines fly directly to Sofia (only 140 k/m from Plovdiv) from London, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam and from many of the other major European cities. The train connection between Sofia and Plovdiv is very good and there are plenty of hotels and B&Bs to be found in both cities.
