CHRIS CORNELL Covers BOB MARLEY With 11-Year-Old Daughter
20 October 2015Chris Cornell has one of the stronger, more recognizable voices in rock and after a performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre on Monday night, we learned that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Cornell invited his 11-year-old daughter Toni onstage for a duet, covering the Bob Marley classic 'Redemption Song.'
The Soundgarden frontman introduced the guest appearance, explaining, “A few years back, my daughter wanted to do a song at school. She said it’s called the Music for Lunch Bunch and she makes it sound like she sits in front of her classmates and they do a song every once in a while. So I went and got a guitar tuned for her in the right key and we went to see her do it and it was actually like an assembly in front of the entire school.”
The proud papa added, “I was as nervous as I’ve ever been, for instance like opening for Metallica in front of 45,000 people. I was more nervous that day, but she sang it beautifully.”
At that point, Cornell invited Toni onstage to the cheers of the New York audience. After a little stage banter, Toni proved to be a pro, showing some power vocals of her own during the performance.
