The Revenant is about as close to an all-around incredible cinematic experience as you can get. From Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar-worthy performance, to the film’s breathtaking exterior shots, to Alejandro G. Inarritu’s quintessential directing, the film is highly deserving of each of its four Golden Globe nominations. While it’s anybody’s guess in which categories it will claim the statue, it seems like a near sure-thing to take home Best Original Score.

Ryuichi Sakamoto (of Yellow Magic Orchestra), Alva Noto, and The National’s Bryce Dessner each provided their own music for the score, with the songs coming together to form “a haunting collection of tearful strings, glazed synths, and engulfing bass that mirrors the scenery and action at hand with compelling results.” Gloomy and rousing in all the right ways, the score will be released on January 8th via Milan Records, with a special vinyl edition coming in April. Ahead of the release, it’s streaming in full below via NPR.
