One of the things that stuck out like a sore thumb on the recently announced 2016 Bonnaroo Music Festival lineup was the name The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Would it be a Beatles tribute from one of the funkiest bassists of all time? Perhaps it’s just a really crappy DJ name? As it turns out, the project features original music from the unique paring of Les Claypool and Sean Lennon.

As the duo shared with Rolling Stone, the two hit it off during a summer 2015 tour that featured Claypool’s band Primus and Lennon’s outfit Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

Claypool shared with Rolling Stone how the two “…had a few backstage, acoustic jamborees that I found interesting but when [Sean] sat in with us and melted our faces with his guitar during ‘Southbound Pachyderm,’ I realized that this fella had some chops.” From there the duo found some downtime over the holidays to drink wine and record at Claypool’s Northern California Rancho Relaxo studio.

The first offering from the Les and Sean is a song titled Cricket and the Genie, an 8 minute psychedelic freak out that indeed lives up to Claypool’s ‘face melting’ description. Take a listen down below.
