Lennon's killer denied parole
11 October 2006A panel of three judges at New York's Attica Correctional Facility took just 16 minutes to reject the 51-year-old's plea.
In a written decision they concluded: "The panel remains concerned about the bizarre nature of this premeditated and violent crime.
"While the panel notes your satisfactory institutional adjustment, due to the extremely violent nature of the offence your release would not be in the best interest of the community."
The ruling, which came a day after Lennon's 66th birthday, means that Chapman will now remain at the institution for at least another two years, reports BBC News.
Chapman shot and killed Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment on December 8 1980.
He was sentenced to 20 years to life for shooting the former Beatle.
