Paul Di’Anno, who sang lead on IRON MAIDEN‘s first two albums, has had to cancel his upcoming tour of Brazil because he is in the hospital. There are no specifics about his condition as of now.

The news comes via the Facebook page of the tour’s promoter, Blog N Roll Producoes.

What follows is Facebook’s translation from the original Portuguese, so we are stressing that some words may not accurately reflect what is known.

It is with great regret that we are obliged to inform all [of] the indefinite postponement of the tour of Paul Di’Anno by Brazil in the next month of June,” it begins. “Paul is in the hospital and, today in the morning, we have been informed directly for him that his table of health at the moment is extremely delicate.” The post adds that he is currently undergoing tests to get a proper diagnosis.

We work with Paul in the past year and all I can say is that he was great with all the people involved in the tour,” the statement continues. “He became a friend to all and we are very sad with the news. We want to see him again on the road as soon as possible. We are available to clarify issues related to the shows marked (where all their contractors and local partners have already been duly warned by us throughout the day today) and we ask for the understanding in the sense that we do not develop in relation to the state of health [of] Paul. This is a private matter and such detailed breakdown it’s not up to us, but only to him.”

Di’Anno had been scheduled to perform in Brazil from June 2-12 on what he’s calling The Beast Is Back tour. His most recent Facebook update was on April 9 to promote shows in Argentina later that month, and his website still lists a March 13 date in Nagoya, Japan under “Upcoming shows.”
