MICK JAGGER and BONO to Participate in Documentary About PRINCE
30 November 2016MICK JAGGER and BONO are among those who have been interviewed for a new documentary about PRINCE‘s early years and rise to fame. Prince: R U Listening? is expected to be released in the spring of 2017.
According to ScreenDaily, the film will be directed and produced by Michael John Kirk, a longtime contributor to the PBS series Frontline. In addition to Jagger and Bono, he’s also lined up interviews with Billy Idol, Lenny Kravitz, Sheila E and two of his former sidemen, Dez Dickerson and Andre Cymone.
PRINCE died on April 21 at the age of 57 at Paisley Park, his home and studio outside Minneapolis. The official cause of death was ruled to be an accidental overdose of fentanyl, an opioid. He had been scheduled to meet with a doctor about his addiction the day after his death.
Jagger’s connection with PRINCE goes back to 1981, when he invited the then-largely unknown PRINCE to open up for the ROLLING STONES at two shows at the L.A. Coliseum.
But the crowd of 94,000 didn’t take to PRINCE’s sound, and shouted homophobic and racist slurs at him while throwing bottles, cans and food towards the stage. PRINCE and his band performed four songs on the first night before walking off, and needed to be persuaded by Jagger to play the second.
As of now, Prince: R U Listening? has not secured U.S. distribution rights; however, it will be shown in German-speaking European countries through Ascot Elite Entertainment Group.
