THE EAGLES‘ 1975 classic 'Take It to the Limit' provides a poignant soundtrack to the latest trailer for Pixar’s upcoming summer blockbuster Cars 3.

Based on Screencrush’s glowing review, 'Take It to the Limit' is an extremely appropriate song choice for promoting the film, which finds hero Lightning McQueen being given one last chance to fend off competition from a younger, more technologically advanced generation of race cars.

'Take It to the Limit' is the only EAGLES single to feature founding and former bassist Randy Meisner on lead vocals. Oddly enough, the song’s success wound up being one of the catalysts for his 1977 departure from the group.

They wanted me to stand in the middle of the stage to sing ‘Take It to the Limit,’ but I liked to be out of the spotlight,” he explained to Rolling Stone. “One night in Knoxville, I stayed up late and got the flu. We did two or three encores and Glenn [Frey] wanted another one. I told them I couldn’t do it, and we got into a spat. That was the end. . . I really felt like I was a member of the group, not a part of it.”

In recent years, Frey took over lead vocals during live performances of 'Take It to the Limit.' Guitarist Joe Walsh has been dedicating his own performances of the song to Frey at his current solo shows, opening for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
