HUSKER DU Drummer Grant Hart Dies at 56
15 September 2017HUSKER DU’s Grant Hart has died at the age of 56 after battling kidney cancer for months.
At around 2am ET, the underground rock legends posted a photograph of their founding singer-drummer without comment. Minneapolis Star Tribune confirmed his death.
"The tragic news of Grant's passing was not unexpected to me. My deepest condolences and thoughts to Grant's family, friends, and fans around the world," his bandmate Bob Mould wrote on Facebook. "Grant Hart was a gifted visual artist, a wonderful story teller, and a frighteningly talented musician. Everyone touched by his spirit will always remember."
News of Hart’s passing spread quickly on social media and became a trending topic in the United States.
With a groundbreaking sound which folded melody, introspection and a bunch of external influences into an indie framework, HUSKER DU led the way for a plethora of bands from the PIXIES and DINOSAUR Jr to NIRVANA and many more.
Hart, alongside bandmates Bob Mould and Greg Norton, released six albums from 1983's Everything Falls Apart to 1987's Warehouse: Songs and Stories. Their 1984 set Zen Arcade is considered a stone cold classic.
Though heralded by critics and musos for shaping the sound of ‘90s modern rock, the Minnesota outfit was neve inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.
