"I know this is a huge disappointment for me, as well, but it’s not going to happen [with me]. I only just found about yesterday that the band has decided to go with a different bass player.”

Last week, Billy Corgan posted a photo with himself, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin in the studio to his Instagram account. It was the strongest sign to date that the foursome were heading for a reunion, which had been rumored for nearly two years, even though Wretzky was not in the shot.

In August 2016, Corgan disclosed that he and Wretzky, who left the band in 1999, had rekindled their friendship, but downplayed the idea that it was going to result in a reunion. "We’re not at that point," he said, "and I think that’s a good thing. We’re not rushing to something, we have to repair some things between us, and see what’s out there for us, if those opportunities are even there."

A few months before that, Wretzky revealed that Corgan, via Iha, had tried to hire her back four times since her departure and would "consider going back" if it felt right. “Circumstances would have to be a certain way,” she said. “It’s much too complicated.”

Back in June, Chamberlin recalled a quote from Wretzky about what it was like to be a girl in SMASHING PUMPKINS: "It's like being married to three guys you wouldn't even date."
