MENTAL ARCHITECTS - 'Truesight' 2018
13 April 2018Why are MENTAL ARCHITECTS such a great band? More importantly, why is it so hard for us to see this?! Do we miss a substantial part of the picture while observing the growth of a local band from an equal’s point of view? Don't we all somehow underestimate the art of the people we can actually see and touch? Guys that we meet at the same gig, or at the bar, people who are our colleagues, friends, classmates? Don't we remain blind to some things?
The new EP of MENTAL ARCHITECTS - Truesight works within the topic of blindness, conceptually inspired by the novel of the same name by David Stahler Jr. It takes place in the futuristic colony, located on a foreign planet, in which everyone is willingly or genetically blind. They follow the philosophy of Truesight in which people cannot see, so they do not get caught up in an external beauty of the world but an internal beauty of people.
Four tracks, or less than 20 minutes, bring us into a new reincarnation of MENTAL ARCHITECTS in which Nikki takes a deserved rest while Maxim and Anton are up for a real sci-fi challenge. Synths and samples heavy, the ARCHITECTS' music is now more monolithic than ever. Surprises do not stop here because ⠠⠠⠞⠗⠥⠑⠎⠊⠣⠞ includes... vocals!
Yes, in last few years, we kind of got used to about thinking MENTAL ARCHITECTS as one of those "instrumental" bands groups. It really is something that perfectly suits the intricate math structures and their highly technical live performances. Of course, this is not their first release with vocals. In fact, MENTAL ARCHITECTS have at least two early albums with lyrics.
To fully understand the following writings it is best to just follow the sound. In any case, there aren’t many other landmarks in the dark.

The cage's door opens, and after the first 10 seconds, it's getting clear that this MENTAL will not be like anything else. Like. Nothing. Else.
You are the home that you neglect. The wall of eyes demands respect.

Just a few glimpses into the EP and M., and A. Already touch the dark subconscious pulse of the archetypal child within. The one that hides in every adult blinded by the vanity of attention.
Are you craving to be seen?
The journey is not necessarily comfortable, but it reaches catharsis at the end ...

... but the end is not close. Falling continues, and the feeling of darkness deepens as I poke around the sharp edges along the way. There is no light at the end of the tunnel.
Push it, push it in.

The Exit, or The Body, is worthy of a soundtrack of a great horror movie. Like the whole album. Because after a few listenings, I definitely refuse to think of Truesight as just four-track EP. This is an ominously good concept album that reveals an unsuspected side of a band that I thought I knew well.
Carry on.
I come out of the experience crawling and light-eyed. Illuminated by a sudden insight! There is no better name for this band than MENTAL ARCHITECTS! Needless to say, if it was a band from any other country in the world, we would be head over heels. Don’t be blind! All this happens right before our eyes - now!
This EP is great and I give it 5 stars just because it is not an hour and a half double records. And I think I need to read this book!
