Franz Ferdinand have started work on their third studio album. Frontman Alex Kapranos said that the new songs he and guitarist Nick McCarthy are writing are different from their previous work, "but will still sound like Franz Ferdinand".

The Scottish group will forego almost any summer festival appearances in England or Europe to work on the the follow-up to 2005's "You Could Have It So Much Better".
