AUSTRALIA POST Responds To Backlash Over AC/DC Stamp Collection
27 July 2018Australia Post has defended its new collection of AC/DC-themed stamps featuring some American editions of the band's album covers.
A backlash ensued after the stamps were released due to the fact that the stamp pack features some U.S. versions of the album covers, instead of the Australian versions.
The original American 'High Voltage' and 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' covers are featured, as well as the ''74 Jailbreak' EP, which was never released in Australia.
"I think they should be called un-Australian Post… This is absolutely disgraceful," said Wil Anderson of the Triple M radio station.
In a statement to Music Feeds, an Australia Post spokesperson said the stamp collection actually "reflects the biggest-selling AC/DC albums worldwide," which is why those covers make an appearance.
"We're thrilled to showcase this terrific achievement with AC/DC," the spokesperson added.
The 20-stamp collection, released in honor of the band's 45th anniversary, features the artwork from all 16 of AC/DC's studio albums, in addition to the 'Live' and 'If You Want Blood You've Got It' live records, as well as 'Who Made Who', which served as the soundtrack to the 1986 film 'Maximum Overdrive'. However, since that only makes 19 releases, Australia Post decided to also include the aforementioned ''74 Jailbreak' EP.
