Paul David Hewson a.k.a. Bono became a knight of the British empire yesterday, March 29, in a ceremony at the Dublin home of British Ambassador David Reddaway. U2's frontman was named a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his humanitarian work and services to the music industry.

However, the singer has not been awarded the title of "Sir", because he is not a British national. "You have permission to call me anything you want - except Sir, all right? Lord of lords, your demigodness, that'll do," Bono joked with reporters after the ceremony...

Bono was accompanied by his wife, Ali, and their four children - Jordan, Eve, Elijah and John - as well as by U2's guitarist The Edge and bassist Adam Clayton.
