Ex-Suede man wins top producer award

Former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler was named Producer Of The Year at the inaugural Music Producers Guild Awards 2009 in London Thursday night.

Butler, who has produced albums for Duffy, Black Kids, Tricky and 1990s, was presented his award by Duffy.

The prize also earns Butler the BRIT Award for Best Producer.

The awards, which took place at London's Cafe de Paris, saw Danger Mouse, Calvin Harris and Bloc Party producer Paul Epworth win awards.

The producer,В criticised bands such as Blur and The Verve for making comebacks.

He said: "There's an awful lot of Britpop reunions going on at the moment and I find it embarrassing personally. I think it's got no relevance to what's going on at the moment.

Butler, who reunited briefly with former Suede singer Brett Anderson to form The Tears in 2004, also confirmed his old band have had no offers to make a comeback.
