We've told you a little bit about Alanis Morissette's upcoming book already, but here's another tidbit about the as-yet-untitled new book: She says it was inspired by Jack Kerouac.

Morissette, who told Rollingstone.com last summer that the book is "non-linear," recently told Spinner it's "all over the place" but does have "a linear pathway" nonetheless.

"There's a book I have here that's like a Jack Kerouac reader with all these different writings of his, from prose essays to little prayers," she told the website. "It's one of my favourite books, so I bow down to that form of book."

So, did Morissette write the entire book on a single scroll with no revisions? Was there pot involved? (Contrary to the legend that Kerouac wrote 1957's On The Road on a single scroll in a spurt of writing without any revisions, he had actually plotted out the characters and story in several notebooks over seven years of road trips and revised the scroll's text several times before he found a publisher for the novel.)

Who knows, but Morissette says she wants to use her book to help people with their own problems instead of discussing hers.

"If i were to share anecdotes or stories or little bit of personal history it's less for the sake of egotistically needing to share some magnum opus memoir with the world 'cause I'm pretty tired of my own story," she told the website.

"[It's] more just to share anything I can that might help people skip over tough experiences, kind of becoming the sister that I never had for other people."

Morissette said last year she's also working on the follow-up to 2008's Flavors Of Entanglement, which could end up turning into two albums.
