RANCID Singer Gets Sleuthy With Svengali Detective Series
02 February 2010Get ready for Rancid's Tim Armstrong to go all Rockford Files on you.
The singer/guitarist has created his own detective series, Svengali, in which he'll also play an "evil professor." The series, which is directed by John Roecker — who also stars in it — is intended to pay homage to 1970s detective shows, and will be released exclusively to the web.
A press release says the "guerilla-style" series is full of "murder, music, sex, intrigue" and Roecker's character is described as "drunk." Nothing says "punk detective series" more than a P.I. that's a drunkard.
You can see the first part of the pilot episode here. It's not quite as amazing as Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," which also pays tribute to '70s detective shows, but it's pretty great nonetheless.
Rancid's most recent album, Let The Dominoes Fall, came out last year.
