Pavlov’s Dog: Two Re-Issues
17 March 2010Cult 70s band Pavlov’s Dog have just had their first two albums re-issued in digi packs with bonus tracks.
The St Louis band were renowned for the impossibly high-pitched vocals of David Surkamp, and signed a deal with ABC Records in 1973 for half-a-million dollars. Incredibly, they were dropped within weeks of releasing debut album Pampered Menial in 1975. Columbia paid an equal amount to pick up the record (in the days when labels had stacks of moolah) and the band are still the only act ever to have the same album on the US charts at the same time on two labels!
The Dog’s second album At The Sound Of The Bell was released in 1976, featuring members of Yes, King Crimson, Roxy Music and Steely Dan.
Now both the debut and follow-up have been re-released by Rockville Music/Soulfood. The former has four bonus tracks, while the latter has three.
