Tom Hanks Could Produce Film Version Of Green Day Musical
24 March 2010Hanks could produce the upcoming film version of Green Day's American Idiot musical and is currently in talks to buy the rights to the musical with his and Gary Goetzman's The Playtone Company, according to MTV News.
Nothing's official yet, though.
This won't be the first time Hanks has produced a musical. He was behind the film version of ABBA musical Mamma Mia!, which grossed $610 million worldwide.В
American Idiot is still on its Broadway run, and closes April 20, according to Deadline.com. It premiered at Berkeley, Calif.'s Berkeley Repertory Theater last year and became the top-grossing show in the venue's history.
The musical is based on Green Day's 2004 album of the same name and was written by Green Day singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening).
