Liverpool club the Korova has been badly damaged by a fire that broke out in the building last Saturday (April 17).

Up to 60 firefighters were called to the blaze, which is thought to have started in the solicitors offices above the bar's Hope Street premises at around 7am (BST), reports Liverpool Echo. The building has been severely damaged by the fire, according to reports.

A spokesperson for the Korova told NME.COM that its owners are currently waiting to find out whether the building is structurally sound before being let back in to assess the damage. He also confirmed that the bar will definitely not be open until further notice.

The Korova is one of Liverpool's most prominent music venues, and has played host to bands including Hot Chip, The XX and The Kooks. It is also notable for being the location where Arctic Monkeys shot the cover image of 2006 debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.
