Billy Joel's drummer has settled a legal case, in which he accused the Uptown Girl singer of depriving him of royalties from records he played on.

Liberty DeVitto worked with Mr Joel from 1975 to 2005, performing on several albums, including The Stranger.

He said he was owed money from recordings dating from 1975 and 1990.

Mr DeVitto's lawyer confirmed the case had been settled but refused to disclose further details. Mr Joel was not immediately available to comment.

Mr Joel's recording company, Sony Music Entertainment Inc, was also named as a defendant.
