If Slipknot drummer Shawn Crahan does end up running for some kind of political position in the future, he'll likely be spending a lot less time with his mask on.

Crahan's been nominated to run for governor in the state's upcoming elections by Iowa weekly newspaper Cityview, which said he's likely to encourage youth to vote if he runs.

"He's smart, thoughtful and creative, and he understands the Iowa culture — and what's right and wrong about it. He'd be an exciting leader," the article titled 25 people not running for governor (but should), reads.

While Crahan told the U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine he won't run in Nov. 2 race, he may go into politics in the future.
"I swear that one day, I'll run for mayor [of Des Moines]," he said. "I want to bring people together. If I wanted to get a little more twisted or worldly, in a crazy way, politics would be it. But right now, I'm a fucking rock star.

"I was talking to my kids [about the article]. I was like, 'Isn't this funny? Half of Iowa would think it would be cool. The other half would bash me over the choices I've made in my life.' A person like me will always get bashed, for the songs I write and the crazy shit I've done in Slipknot. But, as mayor, I could cut through all that crap and get things done and make a difference."

Crahan is gearing up to release a self-titled debut album with Dirty Little Rabbits, his Slipknot side-project. It's due out July 6 on The End Records.
