PAT BENATAR Memoir Hits Book Shelves
17 June 2010Pat Benatar's memoir, fittingly titled 'Between a Rock and a Hard Place,' not only details her childhood and breaking into rock and roll, but also covers her struggle with the music business, which changed her generation's music forever.
In a promotional video for the book, recently posted on YouTube, Benatar -- whose singles 'Love Is a Battlefield,' 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' and 'Invincible' exemplified '70s and early '80s female rock -- talks a little about the conflict: "This character that was my persona on stage... was something I was feeling, that a lot of American women were feeling. We were the daughters of the women's movement. We were gonna be the young ones that were gonna put this into practice. Being able to display your sexuality openly was a form of power. The unfortunate thing that happened is that when I got tired of it, the record company [and] the marketing people found a niche, and were reluctant to let that go."
