Ronnie James Dio statue to be erected in Kavarna
25 June 2010This news just in, from the city's mayor Tsonko Tsonev himself, just after he announced it officialy.
The statue will be placed in the city's central park, within the soon-to-be built Walk of Rock, a project approved by the City Council four years ago.
"Due to Ronnie's recent death, we decided to first erect a statue," said Tsonev and revealed that city officials had already met with various sculptors and artists willing to participate in the project and the work itself was expected to be ready by Autumn.
The legendary rock singer, who passed away on 16 May 2010, after a long battle with stomach cancer, was one of the very first heavy rock icons to play Kavarna. In fact he did it more than once, playing there twice with his solo band and once with Heaven & Hell.
