Chinese farmers build their own Transformers
18 July 2014Transformers mania is sweeping China reveals Hollywood Reporter as Age of Extinction starring Mark Wahlberg, the fourth instalment of Michael Bay's franchise, breaks Chinese box office records closing in on the $300m mark in less than three weeks.
A group of farmers in China's Shangdong province have been cashing in on the wave of excitement surrounding the film by building their own DIY Transformers from old car parts - their 50ft creations are selling for around $16,000. Farmer Wang Shizun told China Daily: "Once we have the structure, all the parts are welded and assembled by piece according to the blueprint. Later, we clean up the sculptures so they are ready for painting. The paint colours are selected and mixed by ourselves and are rust proof."
No news yet on whether Bay has demanded a cut of the farmers' gross profit…
