Damn good title! A pretty accurate one. As everyone knows, the Brits are the only ones with a natural gift for prog. Yes, I mean it. No matter how many Queensryches or Dream Theaters we're gonna get, there's Genesis and there's King Crimson. Period.
Porcupine Tree tend to be undeniably professional, effectively flawless and absolutely honest in what they are doing. It's not that they want to demonstrate their technical finesse and expansiveness like most of the prog bands nowadays do. No. Here it is about experession. And instead of sucking you in, this CD keeps you hesitant and awaiting.
It is hard to describe Porcupine Tree's music, do not expect me to bear this burden on my shoulders. You have to check them for yourself and decide whether you are into it or not, but there is one thing to remember - open your mind as much as you can, you will need it in order to get the message. Be sure you don't miss a single thing. It takes about three listens to become a part of the atmosphere. "Fear of a Blank Planet" is Floyd-ish in some places and Opeth-ish in others (some of you would wish to hear some real growls), but such references do not work if you want some kind of definition.
Porcupine Tree have a lot to achieve to become living prog legends, but it seems they go the right direction. Sure they do.
