You don't have to be a miserable old fart to listen to stuff like The Young Gods. But believe me, sometimes it may help a bit. Big dusty history books tell tales of how this Swiss industrial avant-garde outfit has influenced almost everyone, from Mike Patton to Trent Reznor, but the bitter truth is that you can hardly be able to say this by their newest album, "Super Ready/Fragmente". A long time ago The Young Gods have been overleapt by contemporaries, rivals and newcomers before they decided to go back and release a bunch of useless bleak tunes that we would like to forget as soon as we play the record. No one wants to doubt what they did in the past or the influence they once had. It's just obvious that The Young Gods can't compete with themselves nowadays. They sound as if somebody has stolen all fresh ideas from their well-hidden bucket the other night. Or some night 10 years ago, who knows... It's always sad when legendary musicians make fun of themselves without even understanding it. Not that everybody will point at this album with disgust mouthing out how crappy it is. No. Nobody's going to listen to it. And that's even worse.
