Remember them? They were estimated equally high by metalheads and baggy indie jerks. Therapy? were among the best from the so-called second wave of NWOBHM in the middle of 90’s, when Britain once again tried to get its former rock’n’roll glory back with bands like The Almighty, The Wildhearts, Little Angels, Thunder and Therapy?. Unfortunately but quite predictably for most of us, this effort fell flat as soon as those groups attempted at conquering America.
It’s no secret that most of Therapy?’s best tunes were released in the dawn of 90’s, when alternative music filled our lungs with the sense of fresh air after the stale times of spiky hairdos and mellow glam rock sounds. Then Therapy? suddenly been felt as a bit unnecessary and, because of betraying the egocentric British hope, were discarded from press and fans. Too bad, because Therapy? still rocked better than most of the bands around at that time. They released a bunch of great, but underestimated albums and never complained about not being that famous they once were. Of course, there have been awful releases, too...
Like many British contemporaries, Therapy? struggled their way through years of musical wanderings. At times genius. At times desperate. And if this review sounds a bit like a history lesson, that’s because this CD, "Music Through a Cheap Transistor - The BBC Sessions", is exactly such a lesson. Cleaned from the dust, touched a little bit and then bundled, all the songs here are your typical Therapy? - the way we know them. Only rougher and rock’n’roller. But c’mon, we already downloaded the fact that record companies try to rob us releasing things like this, and I doubt someone with his brains in place will die to buy this album.
