Having bands like Job for a Cowboy around gives you a good reason to tell all nerdy jerks, who complain about contemporary state of metal to fuck off. Picked up by Metal Blade just in the right time, these guys surely had a massive impact over the scene even before they released their Metal Blade debut "Genesis" and this had nothing to do with the usual press release hype. Why then? Well, because this band is one of the first spawned children of a completely new breed. We're talking about mix between hardcore and death metal here, a mix that obviously was about to happen in the beginning of NWOAHM, but has finally shaped just recently. As for "Genesis", not only do songs have immense power, building momentums full of energy and aggression, but each and every riff has its own pulsating and vivid contribution to the final result. There's no repetition in here. In terms of originality, this is may be one of the best death metal records for the past few years now. It shines both with subtle melody and rough straightforwardness, but Job for a Cowboy are surely not afraid to explore other, more experimental aspects of extreme music. Speaking of directions, you can't find many other more advanced bands. Without being phenomenal, this album is unbelievably mature for a debut release. It has some minor weak points, mainly in the atmospheric passages, but compared to the great vocal work, really good drumming and everything else, it's more like nothing serious you can bitch about. If you worship Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God and In Flames, then make sure you won't miss these guys, because they already proved to be one of the shit hot bands in 2007.
