Canada, they say, is the land of talented rock musicians. Bear in mind that names like Rush and Voivod have become significant for their origin. And then we have a band called A Purfect Murder, which is quite tough to pin down, although their first records sounded more original than the last couple (including the new one) of otherwise gorgeous, riffy and spontaneously groovy albums. The problem is that A Perfect Murder almost flew their way from the hardcore scene to thrash metal and then started ripping-off emblematic Pantera chords or breaking down exactly like Black Label Society or Down. Annoying it is, and clueless too. "War of Aggression" is too slow, with too many useless weak breakdowns. There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking in listening to this, but still you can’t say it’s a bad album just because someone stole a few tricks from the music history museum. Freefall or development, time is going to decide what exactly the album is, but one thing is for sure - songs like “Fortunate Son” really break the limits further. And it doesn’t really matter if Pearl Jam was an influence, because the track is great. The same goes for “Sadist” and “In Hell”, which are extreme, rough and aggressive. Without being anything spectacular, the new A Perfect Murder CD is a decent release for anyone not demanding much originality from music. Pity, this band obviously doesn’t plan to go back to its roots.
