Ray Mazzola - the man who screams, grows and shouts for Full Blown Chaos - is an interesting character. He spits the lyrics with passion and anger. Chugga-chug-chug goes the guitar. Nothing that expands the blueprint of metallic hardcore really, but then we don’t necessarily need to be surprised every time, do we? Sometimes it takes a chord or two to make one as happy as a monkey in a banana store.
It is in fury that they capture imagination, and without stealing the gold medal for originality, FBC investigate what’s worth investigating - the strong, the weak, life, everything happening in life. Life is the keyword for “Heavy Lies the Crown”. Either get a life, or continue enjoying music dedicated to evil gnomes and fire-breathing dragons. It’s up to you, you know.
Some songs put a veil of darkness that might be too claustrophobic; others go for the throat, but the message is still here. It’s pulsating, vibrating and challenging the average mindset. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing so intelligently devised in this album, which can bring you an eventual intellectual upheaval. It’s plain aggression. But it’s not aggression for the aggression’s sake. It’s being explained. It’s being chopped into pieces and then gathered again like a Rubick cube.
They are clearly not a joke band. Like contemporaries Death Before Dishonor, FBC keep the hardcore flag flying, no matter that these days everything in the genre is comparable to the mighty Hatebreed. So, without being face-melting, “Heavy Lies The Crown” will fill a certain gap among your CD’s. A gap resulted from the uprising of hundreds emo, post, etc. hardcore bands that, let’s face it, have no idea what this music was once about. Well, FBC know exactly where they belong. As for the quality, you know what they say? When there’s no fish, a cancer is a fish, too.
