In recent years, the fusion of pop and metal has proved to be again a greatly conceived idea for good part of British bands, so it was inevitable for UK's Fightstar to start getting attention after their last year debut "Grand Unification".
This new album shows clearly that after recording Metallica's "Leper Messiah" for the Kerrang! tribute CD, Fightstar have more serious intentions than only to cover up other people's songs. Cuts like "We Apologize for Nothing" and "Deathcar" seem to be capable of punching much harder than their suggested weight.
In fact, several tunes out of the new record can easily turn into big arena anthems, if it wasn't the clumsy feeling that is haunting the room when you're listening to "One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours". Its bleak, pale and sometimes sheer faceless style of expression deprives the otherwise not so bad music of real identity. Not that Fightstar is the only band around suffering from that syndrome, but if there's any criticism flying in their direction, then this is the thing they should pay more attention to in the future.
To be honest with you, it's neither particularly good nor bad; it's just straight down the middle stuff that you either love to bits or hate with a passion. Not likely to change the current musical landscape, nor make many new fans for that matter, but with 12 songs it's pretty good value for money if this sort of thing floats your boat.
