Adam D might have been KILLSWITCH ENGAGE’s driving force, but his partner in TIMES OF GRACE, Jesse Leach was once the band’s mouthpiece. It’s reassuring to know that these two haven’t lost the love of each other and still enjoy working together sometimes.
вЂThe Hymn Of A Broken Man’ is a far more organic affair than any of the recent KSE albums, probably because it was written entirely by Adam himself during hard times in hospital. What’s more it was entirely played by the man and the only essential component that he did not executed was the singing part.
Having all this in mind, one would say that that the only thing Jesse contributed to this project was his voice, but it would be very unfair, as the final product is actually a very fruitful collaboration between the two of them.
To be honest, when I first listened to the album, I didn’t like it at all. I failed to find anything intriguing apart from вЂStrength In Numbers’ and вЂLive In Love’. To me it was too gloomy and moody affair with too many similar ideas thrown into a totally depressing concept. I still have problems with the length and the tempo of the album but I can definitely say it’s a grower. Just give it a few weeks. Not as good as Roadrunner tried to push it down our throats but has some pretty good songs here and there. Just don’t expect another KSE album. This is what it’s not for sure.
