Antimatter is an unpredictable band. Despite some serious line-up changes, they achieved success in different fields, and after everything they've done during the past years, one thing’s for sure - their albums are unique. We can put almost every other group in genre restrictions, but not this British band of strangers. In contrast to the past three full-length studio albums, “Leaving Eden” is the first one-man project by Mick Moss. His companion Duncan Patterson left not only Anathema, but also Antimatter after founding them, and in this particular moment Moss is the main composer and writer and nothing else doesn’t really matter, as his job for this CD is almost brilliant. This is one of the darkest, atmospheric and emotional efforts released in the past few years. The nine songs are saturated with melancholy, but this is not ambient... It is neither doom nor progressive rock... “Leaving Eden” is a combination of the best that can be represented with the help of acoustic means of expression. This is pure emotion materialized in sounds and melodies. Mick Moss sings every word as if he writes a biography of the loneliest and most miserable man in the world. The guitar is sometimes muted and almost invisible, sometimes metallic and burst. It is not necessary for a musician to have perfect skills to make such kind of a treasure. The only thing needed is sensitivity dedicated to the feelings provoked by music. And Moss does have it. He’s giving all his energy to everyone who is ready to be absorbed by the darkness of his emotions. Albums like “Leaving Eden” make me think there is something really beautiful in tears and strong spiritual emotions...
