This is a good album. A short, but absolutely right conclusion about the content of “Isolate”, the second full-length shot by Circus Maximus. When we talk about such a young band it is tough to predict their future success, but their serious applications about this are already given. It is not a surprise that they, as many other new musicians, have chosen the niche of progressive metal and in particular his melodic modification. This can be the main reason for you to skip them with neglect, but then you will lose even the small possibility to give a chance to something which is new and valuable. “Isolate” is like a well done and carefully served meal - it has a decent appearance in the form of a refined cover artwork, content which combines different spicy components that surprise with every song-bite, and a secret recipe known only by the five chefs. The best in the album is its variety. The slow songs are sufficient, the fast strikes and instrumental experiments stay stable at their places and their combination is amazingly successful. In contrast to its depressing title, lyrics and artwork, “Isolate” has a positive and optimistic sound. The complex melodies do not inhibit, but are relaxing, because they’re played in the best way possible. It is interesting that there is a big similarity between Eriksen’s voice and this of Roy Khan from Kamelot in the lower register, and in the slower compositions it is hard to make out if it is the original frontman singing. This can be helpful for the popularity of the album, and Circus Maximus need something like this for sure. “Isolate” is the second main chapter of the history of the band, after their successful debut with “The 1st Chapter”. There is a progress in a good direction... Now read the first sentence of this review again or just stop wasting your time and find this album.
