The best thing for a debut album is its release to be accompanied by a big commercial campaign, and what a better one than making it the way the boys from Dawn of Tears did for their self-financed album, “Descent”? It is uploaded for free download on the band’s official website, www.dawnoftears.com (along with the cover artwork and lyrics), and everybody has the possibility to ask its creators everything he/she wants to know by writing them in MySpace.
Their motherland is Spain, the town is the capital Madrid, and the chosen music genre is melodic death metal. An exotic combination, isn’t it? And all the five members’ names begin with the letter “J”. More than interesting, don’t you think? It’s also impressive how well they are doing their job - men with a fervent southern blood deal great with playing the freezing cold death metal from of “the Swedish type”. On top of that, in “Descent” they have succeeded in reproducing their individual view of the main principles of the style cleverly combined with traditional instrumental skills.
The songs are fast enough and very melodic. The whole album can be easily heard on one breath, because it is homogenous and nifty to the last detail, which makes it suitable for every mood. The attempts to put some new vocal and instrumental techniques in the songs are clearly recognizable, and for the good perception also helps the high quality of the production - one of the main reasons we can pay tribute to this self-financed effort.
So far Dawn of Tears do not have a contract with a label, although they were formed back in 1999. We can only guess what the reasons are, but the content of their first full-length album gives hope that they will receive a proper support soon.
