Three years were needed for the children from Bodom to decide what to put on their next album. Months before it was released, the title “Blooddrunk” was revealed, later the ugly cover artwork was shown, and the meager video of the self-titled single, too. So far, so bad… It turned out that there were almost no surprises in the CD’s content, too. It is even forcedly to talk about any surprises in the disc at all. “Blooddrunk” is a uniform and boring album. It has an aggressive sound, but Alexi and his colleagues seem a bit bored - as if they made their latest duty without putting any effort in it. We can not blame them for the lack of interesting instrumentals, but they stay unnatural in the entire background. It is given prominence to the drums, the songs are leaded by their powerful tempo, but it is not enough to make you jump and go crazy. The tons of piano melodies smash any attempt at listening to the album louder, because they are in a high tonality and in general… A bad first impression. Then you push the play button again, because the CD ends unfinished after the ninth song. From the last full-length Manowar album I haven’t asked myself if a band is not making a joke with its fans. Yes, here’s no joke at all - 37 minutes and the album ends. The compositions with names such as “One Day You Will Cry” and “Tie My Rope” have passed so fast that it is guaranteed that you’ll be shocked after “Roadkill Morning”. It is sad to tell it, but “Blooddrunk” is one of the most senseless albums that Children of Bodom have ever made. In the beginning it was interesting, even pleasant, to listen to their experiments and new musical decisions and to smile at their drunk-idiotic behavior, but in 2008 this looks miserable and comically. If the Finns do not grow up, their fans will grow up about them.
