The Greek metal scene is offering the next dose of provocation for our senses. A year has passed after Rotting Christ’s success over the Balkan and world competition, and now their countrymates are making something similar. One year ago Septic Flesh sent the good news to their fans that they will make a reunion, and a few months later we received a confirmation that they’re working hard on new material. The result from this labor has its name now - “Communion” - and its content is really fresh - like meat detached from the flesh of a wild beast... Comparisons with the previous albums could be made, but “Sumerian Daemons” came out five years ago and the Greeks had time to built their brutal sound on a higher level, so the parallels are useless now. The years in which Septic Flesh were separated were not enough for us to forget what their real abilities are. In many ways such a pause is coming naturally in the development of a band, so “Communion” can be perceived as a logical continuation of the heights achieved in the past. Its beginning is shocking - the drums are knocking the bottom of the speakers. Gradually the songs are getting more digestible without losing their rage while keeping the fire in the souls of true death metal fans. A great impression make the orchestrations that give the disc an unbelievable, almost fabulously epic atmosphere. At some points it sounds as a sinister soundtrack to the darkest contemporary movie. In a lyrical and conceptual way we are again in the world of horror from the stories of H.P. Lovecraft and in the years of the Apocalypse...
