What happens when three friends share their love to early Black Sabbath, their admirations to the space rock of 70’s, and their marihuana cigarettes? Oh, yes, and when they also have plenty of talent and ideas? The answer is: a hell of a debut!
For 4 years of existence, these Swedes recorded one by one a promising demo, a killer EP and a great split with their compatriots Blowback, which gained them serious positions in the underground community of the stoner rock. And here it is - the next logical step on the road of the rock and roll, namely the release of a full-length album. Well, it seems that Martin, Robin and Johannes have locked themselves decisively in the studio with all the CDs of Black Sabbath and Hawkwind they could reach, reaped up the crops of the local dealer, pushed a hard kick on the old amps and recorded their amazing self-titled debut.
The music is strong, Sabbath-leaded heavy doom with thick fuzz guitars and serious space rock flavor. Like a heavy asteroid, flying among the nebulas of the open space... The psychedelic background under the dense rumble of the bass and the fuzzy guitars is strengthened by the lyrics, too, and look at the titles - the opening “The Great Unknown” (a heavy projection of a nightmare dream from futuristic visions), the condemned drawling of “Speaking to the Sea” or the weaved out of melodious bass and strong vocals “Panoramic Telescope”. Almost all songs bear the musical heritage of Black Sabbath with reminding of Kyuss vocals. Among them “Strange Trip” is a real strange trip in the alternative minimal rock of Queens of the Stone Age, but the dominating role here belongs to the bass again, so everything comes to its place.
Sweden is a force in stoner rock, and this trio is the next prove, so charge the steam engine of the spaceship with fume from the cone, put the volume high and fly away along the Asteroid in the boundless space of psychedelic heavy rock. Doctor Smoke recommends!
