The American metal/rock scene in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Backcombed hairs, middle fingers, liters of Jack, youth gone wild and stage cocking. And a few huge bands. One of them was Skid Row. And the face of the band was the as sexy as freaked out frontman Sebastian Bach. Well, he is not with the band for a while now, but he appeared all over the place for the last decade and released some solo attempts. His second official solo album “Angel Down” is the freshest puff of American bushy metal for more than 15 years.
The tracks on the CD are such as the contemporary songs of a rock’n’roll legend from the close past should be - energetic, inspiring and heavy enough to make the lead in the veins boil. And the musicians alongside Seb now are anything but nobodies. “Metal” Mike Chlasciack has played with Halford, Testament and other heroes. Steve DiGiorgio is well known from the albums of Death, Testament, Iced Earth, Sadus... Drummer Bobby Jarzombek is a not less famous metal person, who has passed through many bands - form Halford to Iced Earth. And the producer is Roy Z.
Do you get what we are talking about? A rock fury with a metal dream team! That is why the compositions remind of Skid Row and Guns N’Roses in their strongest years, but loaded with an almost scary dose of metal. Ah, did we mention Guns N’Roses? In three of the songs the vocal parts are divided between Bach and the rebellious Axl Rose. Including the killing cover of the Aerosmith classic “Back in the Saddle”.
Yes, finally we have a real return to the 80’s with reactive speed and much temper. From the opening title track, which is a pure invitation for headbanging, to the wonderful ballad “Falling into You” closing the CD, the songs are a feast for fans of garage metal rock’n’roll that once conquered the USA and the world. Skid Row may now be fading with futile punk rock, but Seb Bach is here and demonstrates what means a genuine “American Metal Head”.
