The rumble of the crowd slowly is escalating, the loudspeakers are roaring, suddenly the four British jump on the stage, Brian and Roger take up the tempo of the fast version of “We Will Rock You” and from now on more than an hour and a half of the concert magic of the phenomenon called Queen follow.
It is extremely difficult to describe a concert of one of the most important bands ever, and more that is was held three decades ago. The record is made in Montreal in two consecutive evenings, November 24-25, 1981 (exactly ten years before Freddie Mercury passed away…), and presents the band in its peak in the very beginning of the 80’s where there aren’t any unconquered peaks yet and its name is applauded by crowds of many thousands all over the world. The live record has been released back then (as the concert movie “We Will Rock You”), and in the end of 2007 it appeared respectively also on DVD, triple LP and CD under the name “Queen Rock Montreal”. I guess that most of the fans of the band have already seen the video, but the difference with the audio disc is that it includes two songs that have been dropped out of the visual version, “Flash” and “The Hero”, which is another reason to have it.
The other reason to possess this record are Queen themselves. To open the blizzard of emotions in the 28 songs, each one of which is an époque in music, because here are “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Save Me”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”... To become witnesses of the live debut of “Under Pressure”, to touch the inexhaustible energy that flows from Freddie on stage, to remain speechless (or screaming in euphoria) in facing the amazing talent of the quartet, to let yourselves to the magic of the harmony in the art of Queen that has become their signature…
The video disc shows us the greatest band of its time, takes us on stage with Brian, Freddie, John and Roger and meets us with the charisma, diversity and power of their music, while the CDs are a lovely companion when we do not have the opportunity to enjoy the magic in front the screen. A real pleasure and dearest gift for everybody who love the works of The Champions. God Save the Queen!
